Mailto link generator
Pre-fill recipients, subject and message for an "email us" link. The link is encoded to RFC 6068, so spaces, line breaks, ampersands and accents survive every mail app.

QR code
Scanning it opens a pre-filled email on the phone. Great for posters, menus and printed handouts.
How to make a mailto link
Fill in the recipient and, optionally, cc, bcc, a subject and a message. The link updates as you type. Copy the raw mailto: URL for buttons and CMS link fields, or copy the ready-made HTML anchor. Test in my mail app opens the link exactly as a visitor would, and the QR code encodes the same link for print.
How the encoding works
- Spaces become
%20, line breaks%0D%0A, and characters with special meaning in URLs (& = ? # % /) are percent-encoded so they cannot break the link apart. - Accented letters and emoji are encoded as UTF-8, which every current mail app understands.
- Plus signs are written as
%2B, because a few mail apps still read a bare+as a space. - Display names such as
Jane <jane@example.com>are reduced to the bare address: mailto links do not carry names.
Have an old link that misbehaves? Paste it into Edit an existing link to decode it into the form, then copy the corrected version.
Questions
Why are spaces written as %20 and not +?
The mailto standard (RFC 6068) uses percent-encoding, and a + in a mailto link is a literal plus sign. Some mail apps would show + signs instead of spaces, so this tool always uses %20 and encodes real plus signs as %2B.
How do I add line breaks to the body?
Just press Enter in the body box. Line breaks are encoded as %0D%0A, the carriage-return and line-feed pair that mail apps expect.
Can I add attachments or HTML formatting?
No. The mailto standard has no way to attach files, and most mail apps treat the body as plain text, so formatting is not possible.
Is there a length limit?
There is no official limit, but some browsers and mail apps cut off very long links. Keep the whole link under roughly 2,000 characters; the tool warns you when you go over.
